Blue
The color blue is associated with the spirit and the sky; with the celestial and eternity; something more or less “mental.”
The Sky
The heavenly aspect of the color has linked it to deities such as Zeus, Odin, and the Virgin Mary, but also to Buddha. Due to its “heavenly” qualities, the color has been used as protection against evil spirits.
Sea and Water
The sea and water also have the color blue, but so do clouds and rain, and it has been associated with fertility and renewal. It is a cool and calming color, linked to purity and transparency; blue unites what is above with what is below (compare to fog).
Mood
In contrast to the warm color red, blue is perceived as cool and invites contemplation. The negative aspect of the color suggests a loss of connection with reality and illusions.
The Thinking Function
According to some experiences, the color can represent the thinking function in dreams, while the feeling function is red (according to Jungian typology).
Light Blue
The light blue shade often indicates distance to something—it is "ethereal," far away in the air, and often symbolizes remoteness.
Blue and White
Blue and white are allied against green and red, as expressed in Christian iconography, among other places. They are the colors of the heavens, the blue sky with its white clouds, which clothe the Virgin Mary (here, the virginal white and heavenly blue). The Jungian analyst Robert A. Johnson perceives blue as the most feminine of colors (“Dream Work”).
