Bus

The bus is a collective means of transportation where one simply follows a predetermined route. It can illustrate the dreamer in a collective situation, or as a “collective” person unable to manifest his or her individuality in a specific psychological or external situation. If one is driving a car, one can choose one's own path, but when sitting on a bus, it is usually an entirely anonymous driver who determines the route.

Another way to interpret the bus is that it represents “the social current one travels with” (Teillard, quoted in Dictionary of Symbols), as the social aspect has a positive connotation that contrasts with infantilism, introversion, and isolation. An individualist might dream of having to board a bus, or being unable to pay for a ticket, and so on. In this case, the bus can symbolize the necessity to adapt to the surrounding society as part of personal development. (See also Vehicle.)
