Bell

Bells have been widely used in religious contexts, serving dual purposes: to banish evil spirits on one hand, and to draw attention to significant events or moments on the other. They function much like an alarm clock, signaling: Now is the time! Bells fulfill “a gathering, focusing function” (von Franz, 2002, p. 96). When rung at specific times, they mark sacred moments, events, or the kairos—the right or opportune time.

For further exploration of timekeeping in this context, see Clock for its broader symbolic and practical uses in marking and measuring time.
