Burglar, Intruder
The common dream motif of someone or several people trying to enter your house, or another place where you are located, possibly reflects disowned parts of ourselves that want to penetrate our lives and become conscious. However, it could also represent contents of our unconscious that we have not previously encountered, now brought to the surface due to events in our lives, reaching a particular stage of development, or simply because the time is right. Both in dreams and in folktales, the unsettling stranger often turns out to be a helper if treated well. (See also Chased.)
An archetypal image of the intruder who can enter anywhere is Hermes, a figure particularly relevant when there are signs that "someone has been here" or when something unknown might break in.
If the dream explicitly identifies the figure as a burglar, it likely suggests that the energy in question aims to take something from the dreamer, rather than the dreamer themselves being under direct threat. In other words, there is a risk of losing something. A defining characteristic of burglary is its violation of integrity; thus, the symbol points to something private.
Conversely, in a dream, you might be the one seeking to take something that, symbolically speaking, does not belong to you. It may be something you desire and are willing to take a risk to obtain—perhaps even challenging fate in the process.
