Climbing

Climbing upwards is of course about getting up, perhaps in an unconventional and dangerous way. It is associated with reaching enlightenment (compare Mountain). If one is close to falling, one might cling to something that could potentially be better to let go of.

Of course, it is important what one is climbing— a rock, a house, or a tree, for example. This certainly determines the symbol's content. Furthermore, one must observe why one is climbing— is it to escape something, achieve something, or get past an obstacle, or does one not even know why one is climbing? Finally, it is also possible to climb down, of course, and in that case, one might get both feet on the ground, or descend into the unknown. (See also Ladder.)
