Fruit

The Philosopher's Stone, the goal of the process, is sometimes described by alchemists as a fruit (from the solar and lunar trees)—the ultimate metamorphosis of "life that has been lived and is represented by the tree itself" (von Franz 1986, p. 109).

Consider expressions like "fruits of labor," "have borne fruit," etc., which are common in several languages; that is, the fruit can symbolize the desirable outcome.

Notably, fruits such as apples contain their own seeds and are potential trees themselves (which then bear the same fruits). In this way, fruits in dreams may symbolize wholeness and rebirth, and/or the Self (Stevens 1997, p. 333).

A special aspect of fruits is that we can pick and eat them as they are. They require no preparation like most vegetables, or a more complex process like bread.

It is, of course, important to note what kind of fruit it is, as they can have different symbolic values and because the dreamer may have various associations with different fruits; everyday or exotic, round or elongated, ripe or unripe, sweet or sour, and so forth.
