Goose

The goose is the bird of Nemesis and later associated with witches and paganism. Like the duck, for example, the goose is comfortable in the air, on land, and in water, which may give it "Mercurial" associations with the soul and the transcendent fuction. In line with this, Hermes' bird is often a goose.

Geese are hardy and bold birds, capable of defending their ground and intimidating in groups. These birds also have a militaristic quality, with their “goose march” and flying formations. The symbol can express an invisible order in nature.

As migratory birds, geese can be associated with the seasons, wisdom, and the ability to intuitively act collectively.

In more folkloric contexts, the goose has often been regarded as foolish, as reflected in expressions like "silly as a goose." In countries like Russia and China, "goose" has been used as a term of endearment for a beloved. In Russian folktales, the motif of a prince marrying a goose frequently appears (a symbolic expression of an "undeveloped" anima).
