Mouth
The mouth can symbolize a wide range of things—we eat, kiss, speak, express emotions, and breathe with it. This part of our body is central to many vital functions, especially in the very earliest stages of life. In dreams, the mouth can suggest the possibility of "taking in," receiving, or denying, thereby fundamentally influencing our situation. A gaping mouth may refer to hunger—an unmet need.
The mouth is also associated with the soul and the "breath of life." We leave earthly life by exhaling our last breath, through which the soul is thought to depart the body. In Egyptian ritual, the mouth of the deceased was opened so that he might regain his life force. It is also a recurring motif (Egyptian, Indian) that gods emerge from the mouth.
