Room
If you are in a house and receive a visit or encounter a problem, it is important to note whether it occurs in, for example, your bathroom, hall, or living room, as these have different meanings. (See respective keywords.)
Rooms in a house can refer to parts of our inner selves, both psychologically and physically. If there is a fire on the top floor, it may relate to emotions threatening our consciousness, for example.
A room can also have special qualities, such as a spiritual room, a symmetrical room, a room that encompasses the dreamer, and so on, and can, in such contexts, express the Self. (See also House.)
Forbidden Room
The forbidden room is a common theme in folktales (such as Bluebeard), but it also appears in dreams. In tales, it could be the famous chamber in the king's castle, while in dreams, it might simply be a basement in an ordinary house.
It is often forbidden because the contents have been repressed and are incompatible with the ego's attitude, so when the door to the room is opened, what one sees can be shocking. However, the frightening aspect may be the prerequisite for increased consciousness. "The forbidden" leading to increased knowledge, etc., is a recurring theme, of course, with the Tree of Knowledge in the Bible being the most famous example.
