Saliva
Saliva has been regarded in various cultures as the substance of life or the soul and, as such, has healing and life-giving properties. It is, so to speak, spirit as water. (See also Breath; as a symbol, "wind" is closely related to saliva.) Jung tells of an African tradition where saliva is offered to the rising sun, "as if they wanted to say, 'Into your hands I place my soul'" (Consciousness and the Unconscious, p. 46-47), on the one hand; on the other hand, Jesus heals blindness with saliva (Mark 8:23-24). (See also Dew.)
