Salmon

In Norse and Celtic mythology, the salmon represents wisdom and knowledge of the future. Heroes could consult the salmon about other worlds. At the same time, the salmon is seen as strong, vital, and nourishing.

The salmon predominantly holds positive symbolic qualities, though on the other hand, the dubious god Loki transformed himself into a salmon when trying to escape the wrath of the gods.

The salmon can symbolize heroic achievements, as it swims upstream every year, defying what should be possible, to spawn. This also lends the image an erotic undertone. (See also Fish.)
