Spear

The spear or lance shares much of its symbolic content with the staff, but perhaps even more so represents directed (psychic) energy. Odin, both a god of war and magic, carried the spear Gungnir (basically meaning "rocking"), especially when associated with the horse. The war god with his spear is paralleled in many cultures by the war goddess with a spear (such as Kali and Athena).

Throwing the spear at the enemy is an image of projection. (See also Bow and Arrow.) Through this act, one draws one's forces against the enemy. In the Icelandic sagas, it is told that chieftains would sacrifice to Odin before battle and then commence the fight by hurling a spear over the enemy forces with the words: "Odin owns you all!" (See also Penetrate.)
