Travel

To travel can signify leaving a situation, undertaking or initiating a new project, or the beginning of a new life phase. The solitary journey is an archetypal expression of liberation from an overly constrained life through transcendence. However, the journey can also symbolize the opus, the inner work; this is how the alchemists viewed the Argonauts’ quest for the Golden Fleece, for example.

The alchemists referred to the journey as peregrinatio, literally meaning leaving one’s home to travel in foreign lands, but also as an expression of the mystical journey in “the four directions.” Life, as we know, is a journey, with, let’s say, many journeys within it.
