Island

The island can represent an autonomous complex, living its own life separate from the rest of the world or the ego. One may possess some knowledge of the place but lacks a conscious relationship to it (if there were such a relationship, it would no longer be depicted as an island). It is, so to speak, "land in the sea," a place that can be made conscious in an otherwise unconscious context; something that rises above the collective unconscious.

Since the island likely represents something primarily unconscious that we still discover, the symbol can indicate insights about oneself that can be integrated into consciousness/the mainland.

On the other hand, if one dreams of being on a deserted island, for example, it may simply be an illustration of isolation. Islands, in general, can suggest something "on the side."
