Road
To travel by a vehicle, one must, in most cases, choose a road. The road describes how easy or difficult our journey is—whether there are obstacles, whether it’s too narrow, whether we can't move forward, and so on. Simply put, the road or path reflects something specific about the situation one is in. Similarly, the road can be more or less difficult for the traveller. He too faces obstacles along the way, and for example, a challenging trail during the journey likely points to the process of individuation.
"The way" as a symbolic expression appears in all religions. Jesus says that the way to life is narrow, while the way to destruction is broad (Matthew 7:14); and in John 14:6, Christ says that He is the way.

In particular, a T-junction literally implies a choice of path. The dreamer must decide which path to follow, a common theme in fairy tales and legends. Once the dreamer has chosen a path, he or she have forsaken another; which alludes to the symbol of sacrifice.
